Al-Jazeera: Is the U.S. Choosing Stability Over Democracy?

Al-Jazeera’s Inside Story Americas aired an episode titled Is the U.S. Choosing Stability Over Democracy?  with Graeme Bannerman, Josh Rogin, and Executive Director of POMED, Stephen McInerney as guests. Bannerman began that he does not believe the U.S. has chosen stability over democracy, and due to the U.S. having a wide range of interests in Egypt, it decided to continue the aid. Rogin expressed that the Administration of President Barack Obama is struggling to keep pace with the ever changing situation in Egypt. Withdrawing the aid from Egypt causes another disruption, and is viewed as an unnecessary risk. McInerney believes resuming the aid shows a lack of support for democracy advocates and civil society promoters, adding that the decision to provide aid could have been delayed and reevaluated when Egypt had met all the conditions Congress had passed to certify the aid package.
