ICC: Seif al-Islam Gaddafi Trial Location Undecided
On Monday, the International Criminal Court (ICC) denied that it has decided to set the trial of Seif al-Islam Gaddafi, former Libyan President Muammar Gaddafi‘s son, in Libya. The ICC contradicted a previous announcement by Libya’s Justice Minister Ali H’mida Ashur that the ICC accepted to try Seif al-Islam in Libya. Seif al-Islam is wanted by the ICC on charges of crimes against humanity, allegedly committed during the upheaval in Libya . In the 2012 World Report , Human Rights Watch said that Libya’s interim government and its international supporters, should make it an urgent priority to build a functioning justice system, and begin legal reform that protects human rights.
Meanwhile, instability continues in Libya. A former member of the ruling National Transitional Council (NTC), M’barek al-Fotmani, reported “The loyalists of Qaddafi took control of the entire city of Bani Walid,” after fighting with the militias loyal to the NTC.
