Bahraini F1 and Batelco Employees to be Reinstated

Bahrain’s Formula 1 Grand Prix officials have announced they plan to reinstate some employees who were dismissed for supporting anti-government protests. Sheikh Salman bin Isa Al-Khalifa, chief executive of the Bahrain International Circuit, said the rehiring of the employees is “an important initiative towards national reconciliation and unity.” Management of the race circuit has been in touch with the fired staff members and a press statement said they hoped to see them returning “as soon as possible,” though the statement did not specify how many employees had been dismissed or reinstated. Bahrain Telecommunications Co (Batelco) also announced it will take back axed workers “who agree to abide by Bahrain’s labour law and Batelco internal policies”, chairman Sheikh Hamad Bin Abdulla al-Khalifa said in a statement.

The government also publicizedplans rebuild 12 Shiite mosques demolished by authorities during last year’s unrest. A government statement said work has begun on five mosques and construction will begin soon on the seven others. Finally, the trial of five police officers implicated in the death of blogger Zakariya Rashid Hassan al-Ashiri proceeded, and they are accused of beating al-Ashiri to death while detaining him.

What the Gov announce & what they do are often two different things. As of yesterday (12th Jan 2012) there were many former employees who know they are not reinstated.
Some have indeed received letters telling them to work from Sunday. However, the regime are duplicitous. They want to appear perfect. The BICI & the recent UN report however show the regime in its true, cruel colors.

Wife of man detained tortured & sacked from Bahrain International Circuit F1 says her husband has not been reinstated.
    Consider:
    1. Will they be compensated as BICI requested & how?
    2. What job position will they have? Many positions have *already been filled* prior to asking them to return.
    3. Will their salaries remain the same?
    4. After F1, will they retain their jobs?

Bahrain International Circuit set up custody rooms in its premises so secret police could torture its employees. Read tweets from @BhTortured (Arabic) to read the testimony of one of the F1 employees.

Anyone with a moral conscience will not want the F1 to be held in Bahrain.
