Kerry Meets with MB Officials and Prime Minister

On Saturday, U.S. Senator John Kerry (D-MA) met with members of the Muslim Brotherhood, ruling military leaders, and the prime minister in Egypt. The Brotherhood released a statement noting three top officials met with Kerry and U.S. Ambassador Anne Patterson, as Brotherhood officials “vowed to respect civil rights and international treaties that have been signed in the past.” It is also reported that Kerry stated he was not surprised by the Brotherhood’s success in the recent parliamentary elections.

In a press release, Kerry said he found “Ganzouri keen on achieving security and restoring order to the Egyptian street as soon as possible, since such an achievement would restore confidence in tourism, investments and other trading activities.” He also added that the U.S. is ready to provide assistance to the government to help with the transition process.
