Arab League Observers “Reassured” in Syria

Following the Arab League observatory mission’s initial visit to Homs, the head of the monitoring group Sudanese General Mustafa Dabi said, “Some places looked a bit of a mess but there was nothing frightening.” Dabi added that “the situation seemed reassuring so far,” but a further investigation would be conducted. The monitors planned to visit Homs again on Wednesday as well as Hama.

While the Arab League mission reported relative calm, the British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said 45 were killed in Syria Tuesday, 19 of them in Homs. As tanks pulled out of Homs, “activists charged that the government’s action was a ruse to mislead observers from the Arab League.”
