Libya: TNC Makes Commitment to Stability

Mahmoud Jibril will head Libya’s post-revolutionary ruling body, showing the country’s leaders commitment to stability. Ali Tarhouni will head the oil and finance portfolios of the executive board of the National Transitional Council.  Mr. Abdel Jalil said “the executive board would focus on creating jobs and generating revenues, as well as investigating alleged human rights violations.”

This announcement comes as Libya’s provisional leaders stated they would resign after they defeat the remaining forces loyal to Muammar Gadhafi in his hometown of Surt. This is a move to clear room for an interim government to rule the country until elections take place. This announcement signals a shift in the TNC, as they have revised their version of victory, which was to completely pacify Libya and capture Gadhafi and his top aides. “The shift by the interim government on Monday reflected growing criticism of the caretaker government for not representing all of Libya and impatience with the pace of change in a country that still feels as if it is at war.”
