TNC Condemns Algeria, Gives Pro-Gadhafi Forces an Ultimatium

A TNC spokesman called the Algerian government’s acceptance of Gadhafi family members who fled yesterday an “act of aggression against the Libyan people,” and demanded their return. The Algerian Ambassador to the U.N. said the Gadhafi family was welcomed because of the  ”holy rule of hospitality” in the region.

And TNC leaders announced that pro-Gadhafi fighters have until Saturday to surrender peacefully, or they will face military force. In a news conference in Benghazi yesterday, TNC leader Mustafa Abdul Jalil also said that the council recently conveyed to NATO officials that no foreign troops would be necessary to maintain security. Finally, TNC leaders rejected a reported offer from Muammar Gadhafi to negotiate a transfer of power, and instead reaffirmed intentions to arrest and prosecute the leader.

Update: The TNC has extended the deadline for surrender of Gadhafi’s fighters until September, 8th.
