Iran: “U.S. is Biggest Sponsor of Terrorism;” Sanctions Enforced by EU

Days after the U.S. State Department released it’s annual report on terrorism and labelled Iran as the “most active sponsor of terrorism,” Iran retaliated by accusing the U.S. of being the “biggest sponsor of terrorism.”  Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast condemned the report findings by citing that the U.S. supports “the most active supporter of terrorism in the world,” Israel.

The State Department report says that by supporting groups such as, Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Hezbollah and the Taliban, “Iran is blocking the path to peace and democracy and threatens economic stability in the Persian Gulf.” In response, Mehmanparast said that Iran is “one of the biggest victim’s of terrorism and has worked with the international community to fight against terrorism.”

On Wednesday, the European Union expanded Syria sanctions toward Iran’s Revolutionary Guard for its involvement in aiding Syrian security forces during the uprisings. EU released a statement that said, “Iran’s elite Quds Force has provided technical assistance, equipment and other support to the Syrian security forces to repress civilian protest movements.”
