Clinton and Kerry Make Remarks on Death of Osama bin Laden

On Monday, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton discussed the impact of Osama bin Laden‘s death on the State Department’s operations.  She stated that the department has worked to forge a global anti-terror network which has “helped put unprecedented pressure on al-Qaida and its leadership” and called for continued cooperation.  Clinton also noted that, “[h]istory will record that bin Ladin’s death came at a time of great movements toward freedom and democracy, at a time when the people across the Middle East and North Africa are rejecting the extremist narratives and charting a path of peaceful progress based on universal rights and aspirations. There is no better rebuke to al-Qaida and its heinous ideology.”

Senator John Kerry (D-MA) also noted that bin Laden’s death “closes an important chapter in our war against extremists who kill innocent people around the world” and discussed the need to  ”remain vigilant and committed to keeping the world safe and secure.”
