Worst of the Worst
Freedom House has just released its Worst of the Worst report, a survey of the most repressive societies as outlined in the Freedom in the World 2009 report. Of the 17 countries and 4 territories profiled in Worst of the Worst, 4 reside in the Middle East; they include Libya, Syria, Saudi Arabia, and Western Sahara in Morocco.

By what standard is Western Sahara ‘in’ Morocco?
The intention was not to make a judgment on the political status of Western Sahara…Perhaps it would have been better to stick with Freedom House’s “Western Sahara (Morocco)”
I understand that, but it is as political as saying that Eastern Jerusalem is ‘in Israel’. Maybe it will be after some future peace agreement, but right now it is not. It’s Israel that is in Eastern Jerusalem, and Morocco that is in Western Sahara, not the other way around.
