Can the United States still promote democracy in the Arab Countries?

October 14th, 2008 by Tariq

Michele Dunne at Harvard’s Middle East Strategy Center tackles “three misguided assumptions and assertions regarding this question.” They are: 1) That The Arab world does not want democracy because it is American; 2) the U.S. cannot pursue regional security and democracy promotion simultaneously; 3) a new administration should focus on developing institutions rather than elections. After highlighting these fallacies, she then moves to debunk them.
