2008: Lieberman Says McCain Offers Foreign Policy “Shake-Up”

September 4th, 2008 by Matt

The Washington Times and New York Observer both covered a foreign policy forum held yesterday at the Republican convention, where great man/evil man (choose your own adventure) Joe Lieberman dropped by to praise John McCain’s foreign policy while lamenting Barack Obama’s inability to conceive of good and evil in the world.  Lieberman notified the audience that his candidate would shake up the U.S. foreign policy structure by committing more support to State, USAID, and public diplomacy efforts that span several agencies.  Lieberman said McCain understood the need for “better public diplomacy to get our case out in the Islamic world,” saying, “we’ve tried, but we still haven’t figured out how to do it.” Discussing Iraq, the Observer quotes Lieberman as adding, “whatever one thinks about whether we should have gone into Iraq, Iraq now is potentially a great model for the future in the Islamic world.”
