Iraqi Elections

At the Democracy Piece, Jack Santucci questions the representativeness of provincial electoral law in Iraq, with elections set for October. He discusses a Reuters analysis that suggests bloc vote systems of voting will protect minority representation. Santucci says that “bloc vote systems with gender and/or sectarian quotas are common in the Arab world.” He also reports on the recently drafted electoral law by the Iraqi cabinet and the provincial elections scheduled for October 1.

It’s hard to question what doesn’t yet exist, but I’ve just posted some thoughtson how to repair Iraq’s party system.
